Inaba Farm Melons (and more)

The Inaba Farm near Yakima has melons! We currently have their Chanterais (a french type canteloupe), a large canteloupe and Black Skinned Watermelons. Fresh from the fields, and delicious, they are just right for summer weather.

Other items this week and next, some local and some from Eastern Washington: corn, peaches, Santa Rosa Plums, Blueberries and local veggies.

And more! Of course.

Mid-August

When I stopped by this last week, I saw wonderful things at the stand!

In addition to the regular items (potatoes, lettuces, other veggies) there were lovely gypsy peppers -- a sort of wax pepper that I use to make a mild "relleno" style dish. Stuffed with a cheesy filling and baked in an egg batter, they never fail to delight when served with salsa.

More lovely things: black watermelons, cantaloupes, cherries (though the season is nearly over), peaches, nectarines, apricots... and to my delight: APPLES! yes -- the first Gravensteins have come across in Michael and Jeannine's van!

Finally, we are just now getting a few locally-grown items. I saw beautiful figs recently, and there were also some blueberries from down the road in Mossyrock.

A quick personal note -- I seem to always forget to bring extra bags to carry home all the lovely loot so end up setting most items loose on the car seat, but it's a good thing to do as it cuts down on the bags Michael and Jeannine have to buy (less overhead means lower prices...).
